Learn Okey Game Rules
Okey is a very interesting tile based game that is mostly popular in Turkey, although played a lot in Europe too. Almost all games will see 4 players although there is also the possibility of just having 2 or 3 play in one game. Okey is highly similar with Rummikub because you will play it with the same tiles and boards although Okey rules are different. According to specialists, Okey did derive from Rummikub, mainly due to influences coming from Germany. Nowadays we see Okey as highly popular in Turkey and Turkish communities, especially in a home surrounding, although you can also play it at various coffeehouses.
The most important Okey game rules that you need to be aware of are not at all hard to memorize. The first one appears when a play begins. If there is any player that is holding one tile that matches the tile that is face up he/she can show it. This will score 1 point. The game is played in an anticlockwise rotation and lasts till a winning hand is made and shown. This marks the end of the Okey game. Tiles that you discard need to be arranged in a stack and just the recent one is allowed to be visible. You will be allowed to look at the ones that are discarded by you and the player on your left but not the other two.
In Okey you will need to score runs and sets. One set is made out of 4 or 3 tiles that have the exact same number but will have different colors. One run is made out of consecutive tiles that all have the same color. Tile 1 is to be used as the highest in a run or the lowest in a run.
You get a winning hand when you have 14 tiles that make out runs and sets. You cannot use one tile to form more combinations. You can also win the game through the official Okey game features rules if you have 7 pairs. One pair is made out of 2 identical tiles, having the same number and color. The jokers are of two kinds: real joker and false joker. We have 2 false jokers (the same as the joker tiles) and the real joker decided by the roll of a dice at the start of a game.
